Baptismal Instructions
Before your child is baptized:
Parents must attend a Baptismal Seminar. Godparents are also encouraged to attend.
The Baptism Registration form must be filled out completely, including the names of the godparents, and returned to the Rectory one week before attending the Baptismal Seminar
Baptismal Seminars are held on the first Sunday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the Knights of Columbus Hall located at the southeast corner of the upper parking lot.
If the parents are registered members of another parish, they must bring a letter of permission from their pastor to have their child baptized at OLG. If the parents have attended a Baptismal Seminar at another parish, and wish to have their child baptized at OLG, they must supply proof of attendance.
At least one of the parents must be a practicing Catholic (i.e., regular Mass attendance). If the parents were not married in the Catholic Church, they will be contacted by a priest or deacon to explore the possibility of having the marriage convalidated.
At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Baptisms are scheduled for the second and last Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m., in the church after the 12:30 P.M. Mass.
If you want your child to be baptized during Mass, contact the Rectory (phone: 619-469-0133) to make arrangements. There will be no baptisms during Mass during Lent.
For valid reasons, baptisms can be held at other times than those listed above, with at least one month advance notice.
An offering ($20 for parishioners, $40 for non-parishioners) is customary. This offering should be made at the time of registration or at the Baptismal Seminar.
