Baptismal Instructions
Before your child is baptized:
Both parents and godparents must attend a Baptismal Seminar.
The Baptism Registration form must be filled out completely, including the names of the godparents, and returned to the Rectory one week before attending the Baptismal Seminar
Baptismal Seminars are usually held on the first Sunday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in Lauerman Hall. Check the Sunday bulletin for any change of schedule.
If the parents are registered members of another parish, they must bring a letter of permission from their pastor to have their child baptized at OLG. If the parents have attended a Baptismal Seminar at another parish, and wish to have their child baptized at OLG, they must supply proof of attendance.
At least one of the parents must be a practicing Catholic (i.e., regular Mass attendance). If the parents were not married in the Catholic Church, they will be contacted by a priest or deacon to explore the possibility of having the marriage convalidated.
At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Baptisms are scheduled for the second Sunday of the month during the 9:00 a.m. Mass, and the last Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m., in the church after the 11:00 a.m. Mass.
If you want your child to be baptized during Mass, contact the Rectory (619)469-0133 to make arrangements. There will be no baptisms during Mass during Lent.
For valid reasons, baptisms can be held at other times than those listed above, with at least one month advance notice.
An offering ($20 for parishioners, $40 for non-parishioners) is customary. This offering should be made at the time of registration or at the Baptismal Seminar.
